Preparedness Begins With Peace

Spiritual Preparedness-Sunday Thoughts

Have you ever noticed how often the Bible talks about being prepared? I was doing some scripture study last night and decided to see just how often “prepared” was mentioned in the Bible. It was really neat to me to see just how many times it was. Which led me to my next thought-”I wonder how many times the word “peace” is mentioned. Here is what I found:

In the King James Version, these words appear throughout Scripture:

Prepared — 101 times
Prepare — 81 times
Preparation — 9 times

But here's something even more remarkable...

The word peace appears 429 times. That is FOUR TIMES MORE!

I don't believe that's accidental. God never asks us to prepare because He wants us to live in fear. He invites us to prepare because He is a God of wisdom, stewardship, and peace.

Throughout the scriptures, God's people prepared:

• Noah prepared the ark before the flood.
• Joseph prepared Egypt for years of famine.
• Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem's walls while trusting the Lord.
• The wise virgins prepared their lamps before the bridegroom came.

Preparation has always been an act of faithful stewardship—not fear.

As we move through hurricane and wildfire season, it's easy to become overwhelmed by headlines, forecasts, and uncertainty. While we can't control the weather or every circumstance, we can choose how we respond:

-Prepare your home

-Prepare your emergency kit

-Review your family's evacuation plan

-And most importantly...Prepare your heart.

Jesus regularly withdrew to quiet places to pray and spend time with His Father (Luke 5:16). In the midst of busy crowds and difficult circumstances, He intentionally stepped away to be renewed. What a beautiful example for us. When it all feels to heavy we need to pause.

Today, take five quiet minutes.

-Take a slow, deep breath.

-Read Nehemiah 6:3:
"I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down." Maybe turn this into a mantra and repeat it a few times.

-Pray. Pause. Listen.

-Reflect on one thing within your control today.

Diffuse a calming blend like Lavender, Frankincense, and Cedarwood as a gentle reminder to slow down and be present. I love these oils and use them often. I find their aromas helpful in creating a peaceful atmosphere for prayer and reflection.

Preparedness isn't only about what's on your shelves or making a 72hr kit. It's about cultivating a calm, steady heart.

When we prepare practically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, we create space for peace—not because we've planned for every possibility, but because we've faithfully done what we can and placed the rest in God's hands.

"The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace."Psalm 29:11
